Dark vines are organized cuttings of vines defiled with the Darkness. They have the ability to constrict or strangle anything in its surrounding environment or something that happens to touch it. Struggling or resistance to Dark vines will cause the plant to exert a greater force of constriction.
Dark vines do not seem to be a common mean to an end. However, certain herbalists have access to it. It possesses some sense of touch, and can be concealed to resemble a sunflower. This plant uses its creepers and tendrils to ensnare anyone who touches it, binding their arms and legs and eventually choking them. The harder a person struggles against Dark vines, the faster and more tightly it binds them. If the victim is able to maintain their presence of mind and relaxes, the vines will relax their grip on them. Dark vines prefer a dark, damp environment. It will stop its movement in the environment in front of bright light and will recoil away from the heat of fire, so a well-placed flame attack will drive it away from its victims.
Early 21st centuryEdit
In 2009, Charity Hirz placed a large cutting of Dark vines as the second defense of the hologram pit. In 2015, Annabeth Black encountered a series of Dark vines in the basement of the Wasp. Before she could leave, the vines grabbed and strangled her. Fortunately, a friend named Sean heard her screaming, and was able to rescue her by blasting the vines apart.
In 2033, Sebiscuits Cardarphen was trapped by a series of Dark vines. The vines lifted up and strangled him as Hell Burnbottom controlled their paths. As they continued to wrap around Cardarphen, Burnbottom fired a blast of lightning that ended the former's life.

In 2041, Fredrick Powell, a government worker, was a comatose patient at NYC Hospital, after having been possessed into attempting to steal the Orb of Power from Transylvania Quarters. When Powell began to recover, a Knight of Plague sent a potted cutting of Dark vines to the hospital in the guise of a get-well-soon gift in order to silence him. Healer Martha Strout apparently mistook the plant for a sunflower, and it asphyxiated Powell.
In 2054, Master Intelligence and the other members of the S.M.S.B. were caught in the plant when they attempted to prevent the theft of the hologram pit. Master Intelligence was able to escape the Dark vines by simply remaining calm. However, Cardarphen had to save the others by casting lightning at it.
